I consider a sport something along the lines of:

- if you are able to have a physical injury
- if you have a competitor
- if you practice more than 5 hours a week
- if you have to have some sort of athletic ability (dancing, flexibility, height, speed, etc...)

I think that Danceguard/ colorguard, cheerleading, song, gumnastics, basketball, baseball, football, golf, track, soccer, tennis and more are sports.

what do you guys think?

A sport certainly need competition , but don't limit it to just ball and team sports or you are part of the sports mafia.

yes on the golf (hey if it's so easy you hack it on the golf course and see how much money you can make) eye-hand coordination plus ability to perform in the clutch that's why Tiger is an elite athlete. Besides most people who don't think golf is a sport would never be disciplined enough to go through the lessons and years of trying to perfect their game.

How's this for a sport swim 10km in open water (ocean) and do it in say 1:55 minuts for the men and 2:03 for the women if you want to compete in the top ten. Oh yea if the jelly fish start stinging keep swimming no reason to stop.

Motor Sports not in the traditional sense , you have competition and a level of skill and concentration going on. Besides they have always been classified as a sport since when I open the sports page that's where they are. Same goes with my SI.

Element of athletic ability since chess and bridge are regonized sports, but I say they're table games. Table Tennis you demonstrate above mentioned atributes so yes a sport. Look that ball would smoke you at the elite level with the way those Chinese guys can serve it. It demonstrates athletic ability.

Finall cheerleading okay I grant you a waiver for competitions, because you're demonstrating tumbling and acrobatic gymnastics.

I consider a sport anything that is decided by the teams, and not judges. For example a team that scores the most points, not who the judges pick to win. If a judge is involved (not a referee or umpire etc) then it is considered a comepetition. Im not saying that cheerleading or gymnastics are not tough, because they are tougher than some sports, but they would not be considered a sport because it is based on impressing judges and not just your own physical ability by itself

Something where there are teams or a competitor of some sort. Something that requires some type of ball. To me, Nascar is NOT a sport. Cheerleading, dance, gymnastics are not sports. Tennis, baseball, football, basketball, soccer are.
