This question brought back memories for me. As a young married woman in the very early 60's, I had few $$$$ for clothing. I had a blue/gray/white plaid suit with a hip length jacket. As it went out of style I didn't want to wear it as it was. So, I shortened the jacket to waist length. Then took the fabric I cut off the bottom and made a "Jackie" style hat from it. It was cool, and I got lots of comments on the outfit and it looked new and fashionable.

Some years back I made a lovely and unique full circle skirt. It was quilt-pieced in a "Texas Star" pattern. Each diamond shaped piece was about 2 inches wide and 4 inches long, and I made it in bright jewel tones (fuschia, purple, teal, and variations) with the triangle sections that completed the star into a circle light lavender. I made a coordinating lavender/purple blouse with front and back yoke, as well as a texas star design beaded amulet bag in the same colours.

It was definitely a big hit! Unfortunately, I gained weight and can't wear it anymore, but still have it. I should take a pic of it and post it, it really is awesome!
