That object is absorbing every color except that color that you see. Then you look at it and it goes through the whole ordeal with your eye, rods and cones, etc.

Because all other colors in the visible spectrum have been absorbed and that particular color is the only one being reflected back to you.

Because you were taught that is what the color is....regardless if you see it the same as everyone else, to you Green is what you see when it's "Green"

Unless you're looking for the scientific answer, then it's all wavelengths.

Objects absorb and reflect light. Whatever light they don't absorb, that's the color reflected.
