Migraines can most definitely take over your life. I tried everything acupuncture, feverfew, cohosh, homeopathic remedies,5HTP, Mineral Supplements,enzymes for inflammation and nothing worked. It went on for several years and the pain was unbelievable. You have my utmost sympathy.
There are quite a few reasons for migraines so you have to narrow down the cause before you can find a successful treatment.
I found a good neurologist.I've been working with him for a year. At first I was in the hospital a couple times a month for the headaches I couldn't control at home with pain medication. On top of the two a week I was struggling with on my own at home.
Finally we tried Topamax in very low doses 50mgs a day as a preventive.
The migraines stopped almost completely. I only get them once in awhile and I can control the pain.
I'm sorry my experience didn't yield any natural cure, however there are some natural ways to help avoid triggering migraines.
I found The Prescription for Nutritional Healing a valuable tool to help me modify my eating habits and to avoiding other triggers and generally has a wealth of information about migraines and numerous other health conditions. Acupuncture is a valuable tool as well.
I really wanted to resolve this problem without drugs however I was unable to do that.
I have found the balance by using both regular and alternative medicine combined.
I wish you well it is a difficult condition to live with.

Im suffering with the same situation. Naturally I have improved in frequency, severity, and duration. I've learned to stay away from nitrates and other preservatives. Ive tried homeopathic stuff with no success. Im about to try feverfew but I have heard it take a few months before it works well as a preventative. I received some info from a OMD that successfully uses a combination of acupuncture, homeopathy, nutrition, herbs and enzymes. But because there is a plethora of triggers its hard to nail down a cure all. Natrum Mur or Mag phos can reduce frequency also a multi mineral supplement like emergen C helps just by balancing out the electrolytes. My next move is an extract called Butterbur. It can be combined with other medications but it can take up to 4 weeks to see results but some do immediatly. And its advised that it should not be taken more than 4 months at a time. Why that is, I dont know but some herbs work better that way, like echinacea 10 days on 10 days off and so on.

- Here's a list of foods the National Headache Foundation says you should avoid.

* Ripened cheeses, such as cheddar and brie
* Chocolate
* Anything fermented, pickled or marinated
* Nuts including peanut butter
* Sourdough bread
* Anything with MSG, including soy sauce, meat tenderizers and seasoning salt
* And if you get migraines often, you should avoid eating pizza

If you cut all these out of your diet and the headaches STILL come, experts say to focus your attention on other parts of your body especially your muscles. Here's a tip to help you get rid of the pain fast--

* Lie on your back and tighten the muscles in your toes and feet. Hold this for a few seconds, then relax. Do this for each muscle group, working your way up the body. When you're finished, stand up and stretch the different muscle groups for a total of five minutes. Again, work from the feet up - until you reach your head. This'll help get rid of tension and stress, which should reduce the sharpness of the migraine.

- Try fatty fish like trout, sardines or herring. They're loaded with omega-3 fatty acids which lower your body's production of chemicals that cause inflammation and pain in your brain. In tests, doctors found that people taking fish oil supplements had fewer headaches--The ones they did get didn't last as long and were less severe. To get the desired effect, have a 4 ounce serving three times a week. Also, there are certain foods to avoid researchers found that migraine sufferers are sensitive to these foods: processed meat, hard cheese, citrus, and red wine.

The only thing that really works for me, over the counter is migraleve. Avoid caffeine at all costs, spices, chilly, chocolate and cheese. Also learn to relax as stress and depression can trigger migraine attacks. Too much sun, especially a change in heat or cold with the blinding sun rays can also trigger the attacks too. My doctor advised me 6 years ago to keep a diary.I did not but I kept checking what I had eaten the previous day. However, it is not the food that trigger migraine in my case by fatigue or exhaustion. You need to sleep enough hours and not strain your eyes on the computer for too long as it can also cause migraine.

You could try a skilled massage therapy session. Try finding a therapist who has more than 5 years' experience. Trigger Point, Accupressure, and Neuromuscular therapy are good techniques that help your condition, if you catch the migraine before it comes on fully.

Also, using a blend of essential oils of peppermint and lavendar. 3 drops peppermint, 2 drops lavendar in a half-teaspoon of rubbing alcohol or almond oil. Rub on neck and temples as you feel a migraine coming on. Also, putting that amount on a warm cloth and breathing the essential oils in with a deep breath. I am a massage therapist in TX with 16 years' experience, and these things work for my client.

A bottle of Aveda's "Blue Oil" is a very effective peppermint blend that you can keep in your purse, and rub onto your face points and neck when you feel one coming on. The peppermint oil affects your vascular system.

Massage affects so many of the presumed triggers of migraines -- vascular, respiratory, hormonal, lymph system (if it's related to a chemical sensitivity), adrenal. Find a good, experienced therapist -- they are worth the money!!

There are studies to show that pulsed magnotherapy can help relieve migraines, see below.

There is also anecdotal evidence that magnotherapy wristbands and pads can also help, but get a good money back guarantee as nothing works for everyone.

First of all, inderal is an amazing medicine. If that won't work, try taking a short nap, and drinking plenty of water. I know from experience, and migraines suck. They are crazy and have many things that effect them

Meds taken over a long period of time can lose their effectiveness. I am a migraine sufferer myself and are using natural remedies to help reduce the severity and frequency of my headaches.

I also recently subscribed to a free newsletter on natural migraine remedies here http://www.headachetreatmentsecrets.com

The newsletter gives free tips and plenty of ideas on what you can do.

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck.
Headaches can be caused by minor problems
like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more serious reasons
like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can
have harmful side effects, so it is better to
modify your lifestyle. More information available at
