They have the best hitter, pitcher and AL MVP, so why no respect?

Becaus ethey are not as flashy or spend as much $ as some other teams. They are unappreciated and underestimated every year, but that's the way us Twins fans like it! People keep thinking they don't have to take us seriously, then we end up right near the top again and again!
I think w/ the winning of the awards last year that we are getting a bit more props, but people still wanna underestimate them because we lost two top starters. The Twins will "surprise" all their critics again this year. We are NEVER picked to win the division, but we are always right there.
Even in the late 90's when we were not winning, we always fielded a classy team of great guys who are coached well and play the right way... the league and fans better learn to recognize the franchise!

If you don't think the Twins get respect, wait until the regular after the regular season starts and Johan Santana notches his first victory (which hopefully won't come against my Orioles). Then look at what the opposing team will have to say about his performance in the newspapers or the Twins website (link below). The Minnesota Twins command respect from other teams around the league.

That's a pretty important kind of respect for any ballclub to have, even more then what ESPN might give by devoting the first segment of Baseball Tonight entirely to the Twins.

Being a small market in the midwest really hurts teams such as the Twins. The east coast bias will keep shoving Red Sox and Yankees down our throats, while the central divisions keep sending out great teams which have represented 5 of the last 6 teams in the World Series.

It is hard to ignore a team with studs like Santana, Mauer, Morneau, and Nathan. Too bad Liriano won't be around this year. I would love to see the torture of teams facing Santana and Liriano back to back for an entire season.

Well following MLB.com and Sportscenter everyday I thought they got a lot of attention however I see your point. I think it mainly has to do with the fact that they are a small market team, in a small market division. Yeah there were two teams that made it from that division last year and the White Sox won the year before, but then you have to factor in that there is usually 1-2 teams that are absolutely horrible.

That and the fact that they aren't very "fun" to follow as people realize these stars will all be gone in a few years to play for the Yankees, Red Sox, etc.

Hey, hey, hey, nowwaitaminutethere... The Twins are a very good team. I think among baseball fans, the 2007 Twins are highly regarded. I'm a BoSox fan living in Seattle, but I would go to Safeco to watch Boof Bonser pitch.

I like the Twins, but I think maybe the Tigers are going to actually stay consistent though September this year--so I'll wait and see.

That is all they have. Maybe if Liriano was healthy they would get a little more but they don't have anything more than Morneau and Santana. They will have a decent season but nobody talks about them as a major contendor. They just don't have the depth to keep up with other teams in the AL.

they get no respect from the media only, any true baseball fan realizes the wonderful job the twins organization has done building up this team from the ground the old-fashioned way: with the farm system and grooming their own...they just don't have the star power outside of johan santana to be a highly regarded team by the media, while of course the yankees and red sox and other such teams have the money to spend on big names

I am a HUGE Twins fan, and I totally agree! One reason why I don't thinkt hey get any respect is because they had their "break out" season this past year, and before that they haven't really proven much. With that said, they didn't get respect because they didn't make it big, but since they NOW have 3 players with titles, they could be in store for some more respect....especially with Santana.

The Twins don't get respect because of the team is in a small market.

And to those who say the Twins need to get a real stadium...they are getting one in 2010. They begin construction on it this summer. Before spouting off, do your research first.

Go Twins!

I think one reason is that Minnesota isn't considered a baseball town. Sure there are the Twins fans but I've always thought of the Timberwolves when Ithink Minnesota. Also hockey has a large following.
