How do input and output devices connected to a computer affect the operating system of a computer?

Ummm by allowing you to see what it is doing and give it commands.

Basically think of the operating system as one big scheduler. As your are clicking the mouse, typing on the keyboard , printing something or running an application the operating system is the managing force behind performing the task you are requesting. As you give the operating system more tasks to do a priority gets assigned while the operating system is utilizing the hardware resources available....

ALL your "devices" are input and/or output devices. This includes Keyboard, Mouse, Hard drive, ROM chips, etc.

Without them, you have a pile of connected electronic parts that do NOTHING whatsoever!!!!!
