My mom and I were actually talking about this the other day. We saw three people walking. A mother and her two daughters (probably about 8 and 10) and the 10ish year old was walking with a CD player. And we reminisced about when I was younger and walked around with a Walkman! Man those were the days. Recording music from the radio onto tapes and playing them back with your Walkman. Wow, anyway, ipods are basically Walkmans but more sophisticated. Instead of having the music on tapes, it's stored directly on the ipods hard drive (kinda like a small computer too) I hope this helped.

An ipod is a MP3 player. An mp3 is digital music file, it's a lesser quality than a CD but you can get much more mp3 files in the same space than you could with higher quality files.
So consequently ipods are smaller and lighter weight than walkmans and you can have more music on there and not have to carry around cassettes or CD's if you want to change what you're listening to.

ipod is mp3 or mp4, where you can download music directly from your computer.. and its 100% much better than walkman...
