italics ... def -- major works it should be underline but short stories and poems are Italics

Neither - italicizing and underlining are the same things. You put it in quote marks: "The Long Year." Just remember that short things you put in quote marks, and longer things you either italicize or underline.

Italics, Underlining is for long stories or novels. Short stories need quotes.

Maybe you put it in quotes? If it is supposed to be italicized, but you put it in quotes instead, does that mean the Italics Police will come to your house and arrest you?

It depends on your teacher/prof.

Most of my profs prefered underlining.

Regardless of the fact, either is correct as long as you are consistent.

actually u can do both. it really doesnt matter unless ur teacher likes it a specific way. dont put in quotes. that is wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!
