I don't know how to sing. I am a male and would like to learn the basics, just because I think it's a good skill to have and will help me in other ways.

I do not plan on taking lessons with a trainer. I will make do trying to teach myself.

What music do you guys recommend I start with? Start me off with something very easy. Any tips, terms and/or links are appreciated. Thanks.

Hey.. i'm also learning to sing for the 1st time but taking it seriously. i've done a hecka lot of research about singing tips and basics for beginners online, after a thorough research, i came upon Singorama. The instructor is really good, hearing her voice, pitch, tone and the rave reviews from other third-party and customers. The downloadable software includes a lot of great stuff, and lessons with ease about learning how to write songs, chords, and more. as well as a mini recorder and how-to books which you can read straight from your monitor. I'm in chapter 4 or 5 more to go but w/ college its interfering now, but i learned so far with ease and demostrations and practice lessons that are interactive also helps a lot too.

I'm not going to get into much detail, but i think i made the right purchase you should check it out... Singorama type in yahoo search engine..

a good yet easy song to practice with is Glycerine by Bush, it was my beginning lesson. i recommend training your breathing too b/c you need to master breathing in order to sing catchy-quick tempo songs. i usually put sand weights lying down and breathing in holding for a few seconds then exhaling and holding for the same amount of seconds as when i inhaled. as your breathing gets better, move from slow to fast tempo when you think you're ready. hope this helps and good luck!!

by the way, don't listen to ppl who say you can't sing...actually our voices are born to sing when we were babies, but b/c of growing and not using your voice to the fullest potential, we tend to lose the ability we once had. many ppl don't know this, me too but after reading from singers/teachers you can't argue with them.

God bless

Start with a song you like. Sing along with the original singer, then try and find the song in an instrumental version and also sing it. Try practicing in the shower, it sounds stupid but it helps.

start by trying to vocalize. if you have a piano, just play on do-re-mi-fa-sol and make it higher and higher then try to sing with it. make sure you can keep up as the pitch rises. vocalizing may help you in many ways. one is that it can power up and strengthen your vocal chords. another is it can make you follow or sing songs easier because you'll know the right pitch.
