Your best bet is to use a software that hide your IP or change your IP address and Mac address.

MAC address, short for Media Access Control address, is a unique code assigned to most forms of networking hardware. The address is permanently assigned to the hardware, so limiting a wireless network's access to hardware -- such as wireless cards -- is a security feature employed by closed wireless networks. But an experienced hacker -- armed with the proper tools -- can still figure out an authorized MAC address, masquerade as a legitimate address and access a closed network.

Also, if the police as sufficient material to continue a investigation they may ask to get a warrant from a judge to cease the computer and investigate what is on the hardrive.

I doubt though the police will look at your computer.

I agree with teef_au, this issue is slightly more complicated. There are methods of masking your travels on the Internet, however nothing is ever 100% secure.

Firewalls, like Zone Alarm, when properly configured, can add a additional layer of security when your computer is connected to the Internet. I believe the best defence against on-line threats, is to a utilize layers of security, rather than just one piece of software/hardware. So implement a firewall, use an up-to-date browser, install an anti-virus suite, don't download content you are unsure of, etc.

A combination of security software and good computer habits will reduce your exposure substantially.

If you are using a P2P program to download pirated music, video, etc., you are risking getting caught and a huge fine. A firewall want protect you. The monitoring is being done outside your computer. There is no way to prevent this except by using say wifi at a public location with a laptop.
If you have a pirated Windows program that you are worried about, a firewall want help you there either.
Having a p2p program is not illegal. It is what you download.
Care to say what program you are worried about?

particular you particular can. besides the undeniable fact which you will ought to demonstrate screen Zone Alarm together as doing this. it rather is going to each now and returned detect different Anti-Virus utility as an attempt to change your registry/centers while the two are lively on the comparable time. If this occurs you may merely enable that technique while the window pops as much as assist you be attentive to. merely be careful which courses you enable, by way of fact in very nearly all cases, Zone Alarm will in ordinary terms ask you one time for that application, so in case you enable the incorrect concern, or block the incorrect concern, you may nicely be scanning by way of Zone Alarm settings for hours to decide what befell.
