Yes, it happens all the time. People can be overqualified for jobs or certain careers because they have too much education, so they may have great difficulty finding employment. In some cases, it is advantageous to have less education. There are more jobs at the bottom than at the very top of the workforce.

If I apply for a job that requires little experience or education, I often do not even list my degrees on the application.

For some reason a lot of education can cause depression and sadness, also people with Ph.D's have people all over them because they think they have money. You can educate yourself right out of common sense. You can be educated but it doesn't mean you have common sense and all the education can get to your head. They are some of the disadvantages. Education is a great thing though so don't let the disadvantges stop you. With education you will be doing good financially and you won't have to worry about money. It is always good to educate yourself and become a smarter person. These days people really need education do make it in life, with good education you won't have to worry about getting a job because you will be able to get a great job. There are pro's and con's but there are pro's and con's with everything.

Yes, I can. I'm an Activity Director in the Alzheimers/Dementia Unit, at a nursing home. All of my residents are in their 80s and 90s, and although, they certainly have more life experience than I do, they may have less education. This, on top of memory loss and confusion, sometimes, makes them feel less confidant when doing activities. I often do "this day in history", word games, "reminiscing", and group discussion types of activities. Occasionally, someone will say, "well, I don't want to answer because you're smarter than I am, and you know the answer"

Yes, if you are a a dope-whore, education can be a big disadvantage.

But if you want to leave that industry, education can be beneficial to your new potential employers.

Too much education is considered a disadavantage when applying for meaningless jobs. You will have to bite the bullet and tackle more difficult and responsible positions if you opt for education. The pro side is, you won't have to be anyone's whore later.
