The Tigers had a great season last year when basically nobody expected them to. They have added a new bat with Sheffield and have gotten some of their pitching back from injuries. With Jim Leyland as manager it seems like they should be one of the teams to beat this year but are they good enough to win the pennant again?

The tigers definately have a good chance of either winning the division or getting that wild card spot. Their pitching is the best in the division (possibly in all of AL) when you consider their rotation and their bullpen. Their hitting lineup is solid from top to bottom with no weaknesses. They should win between 90 and 95 wins this season which would be good enough for either the division or the WC. If the Indians can finally get their act together they will challenge them every step of the way and Minnesota, despite thier pitching rotation questions always seem to play good baseball and will also be up there. I think the White sox will be looking at 4th place this year with Ozzie Guillen having multiple blow ups down the stretch. KC? ha ha ha....forget it.

I think the Tigers are certainly capable of winning the AL pennant. I'd be willing to say that they probably have the best overall pitching roster in the central, especially since Minnesota's Francisco Liriano won't be pitching this season. And they have a very solid line-up that only got better with the addition of Gary Sheffeild.

If you ask me the Tigers will have a problem making the playoffs down the stretch, and as we've seen last year, they certainly aren't intimidated by the Yankees in the post-season.

Finally, the Tigers will also be playing with a chip on their shoulders since they'll want to go back to the world series and WIN this time around.

I would have to lean towards saying no. Leyland has a great team, but the thing is they are young power pitchers who ate a lot of innings. Historically a young pitcher who pitches alot of innings one year will get injured the next year (Kerry Wood, Mark Prior are fine examples). I'm thinking one of the young guys will go down and Kenny Rogers may break apart down the stretch due to age. They'll do good but I don't see a pennant.

Yes, they are absolutely good enough to repeat, and likely would win in a long World Series against any National League team. Just my opinion. I was surprised that they lost last year. Maybe they buckled a little under the Rogers controversy. They should steam-roll a little bit this season, and I expect them to win the Division title this year.

But....

Go Red Sox!!!

i think they are CAPABLE, but i don't think they will...they will have tremendous pitching once again, but the question becomes is gary sheffield going to bring this offense over the top and allow them to score enough runs to win games? i just don't know, and it will be magnified in the playoffs when the tigers may have to pitch to lineups like the yankees and red sox will be throwing at them

No. They window of opportunity has come and gone. They will have a good season but they will not repeat as AL Champs. Sheffield was a good addition but he will not be enough.

they'll win the AL Central this year, but they'll fall short of the Pennant because they'll lose to the RED SOX in the ALCS.
