If you want to reward the president's bravery and leadership, then write to all of your congressmen and women. Tell them to fund the troops, cut the pork, and drop the deadline crap.

Well the Purple Heart is awarded to military personnel only. It is awarded for "Being wounded or killed in any action against an enemy of the United States or as a result of an act of any such enemy or opposing armed forces." So I am sorry to tell you that he is not deserving.
However, I do think that you have a point about something. It is very evident that at some point that Dubya must have taken some kind of trauma to the head. Probably from falling down when he was drunk. Maybe he could be awarded the purple keg award.

Despite the fact that Bush will not receive the Purple Heart, he is VERY generous with them. Just think of all the soldiers that would not have received one if it were not for him.

Gypsy Girl, your knowledge of the military is not very good. I was stationed in Germany in the 80's and I remember some soldiers that got a Purple Heart for being in a Disco Club, when a member of the Baader Meinhof Gang, threw a hand grenade inside of the Disco.

So you don't necessarily have to be in a combat environment to get the purple heart.

Please do some research if you don't think I am right. Army Regulation 600-8-22 (Military Awards) will tell you what you need to know.

While this would be an interesting debate, I think this is just going to be a Bush bashing extravaganza or others supporting Bush. However, I don't believe he should be awarded the Purple Heart because like the person before me said it should be awarded to those who are physically injured... Correct me if I'm wrong, but I highly doubt those who have taken psychological damage from war are awarded Purple Hearts.

No, the President is not eligible for that award. [Obvious but very snarky comment edited.] Only military personnel wounded by enemy fire while in a combat zone. No amount of verbal abuse by the press and Congress counts as wounding under fire, and the CinC is by definition a civilian. That means even if he went to visit the troops in Baghdad and got hit by mortar fire, he wouldn't be eligible. Sorry.

You aren't getting all sentimental on us are you? Maybe you are feeling pity for the poor guy.

Well I'm not, in there is no way in that fiery pit we refer to as hell, that I would ever wish that man get a Purple Heart.

He wasn't fighting for our country, he did no service, the people who deserve are the ones who actually fought and got wounded. Bush brought on all this abuse himself. He has sat behind his heavily guarded doors, making poor decisions that have led us to invade another country for no apparent reason...what happend to Bin Laden? Wasn't that the reason we went over there in the first place? Then it became about WMD's, then he was wrong there and we are still letting our troops and innocent people in Iraq be killed over pride or stupidity, I haven't figured out which one yet. Maybe both.

And not to mention our economy stinks, he is failing his country as well another right now. He in no way deserves a Purple Heart for any of the so called abuse he has and will take. He totally deserves it. I'll admit, I couldn't be president, but come on, he is the biggest joke heard round the world! What would it say about us as Americans if we gave him that?!?!

Purple Hearts are awarded to soldiers injured in combat. Since Bush was not in combat, he does not deserve a Purple Heart. And the reason for the abuse he has taken is because he lied to us when he started this war. Remember the weapons of mass destruction? Still haven't been found....

The Bush Bashers can't even say he has a nice tie or a cute puppy.

Bush is tough and can take it. That's part of the reason I like him. A stand-up guy that know's he's protecting us.

We waited 444 days during the last hostage crisis with do nothing carter.

No because that would degrade the Award for the real heroes that have deserved it. Being a President you have to face the fact that you can't please everyone, giving him the Purple Heart for what he has done, no.
I have 4 friends (2 of whom are no longer alive) that have received the Purple Heart

Well no for two main reasons, regardless of one's political views:
1- The Purple Heart is awarded for injury or wounding in a combat zone, and/or combat situation.
2- It's a MILITARY award. He's a civilian-as he should be since we want civilian control of the military.

No why would you want to give him a purple heart if he hasn't taken a bullet? He has sent thousands of troops to Iraq (and notice how he shifted from Afghanistan to Iraq now we don't even hear from Afghanistan its all about Iraq he hasn't done his work hasn't helped captured Bin ladin!) well anyways he has sent thousands of troops meanwhile he's in his comfy chair in his office, and soldiers are dieing everyday. However what's good is that saddam is gone but why help change a country when the people don't WANT to be changed????
