Dancing en pointe definitely harms the feet. Some say dancer's feet are ruined once they dance en pointe, but if you have the passion to dance, it's worth it all. Although you may be in pain and you think you may have the ugliest feet in the world, just think of how much your feet mean to you when you dance.

Yes, it can, but it can be prevented. For example, my former dance teacher had major foot problems because she was started on point WAY too early. If girls start on pointe too soon, and their feet aren't fully developed, major injuries and lasting pain can occur. However, if the pointe instructor is properly educated about the discipline and requirements for being en pointe, injuries can be avoided. You may get blisters and what-not, but as long as you are careful and prepared, you should be okay. Prolonged pointe (sometimes) cause arthritis later in life as well. It is a risky discipline of dance, but definitely worth it!!

Damn straight, They say that Anna Pavlova left trails of blood across the stage her feet were such a mess. BUT walking in high heel shoes can damage your feet just a severely. My mom wore pointed toe high heel shoes all her life and she was a cripple with deformed feet by the time she was 40. Pursuing your art has a price but at least you're pursuing your art not just fashion.

I am not a dancer, but have seen the feet of a prima ballerina. Her toes were swollen, straight across, and very ugly. They looked extremely painful.

it can, if done too early, or by someone who's ankles are not strong enough to support the feet. you can do excercises to prevent this from happening. there are also other accidents that can happen, like for example, you can go over on your box (your ankle will basically collapse), or you can land a jump wrong. good luck! hope i get best answer :)))
