Air Asia- cheap, a lot of delays, cancel, no refund etc.

Malaysia Airlines- expensive, more punctual, reliable etc

I agree with Dino above.

Do they ignore the cost when it comes to technical and safety? I am not worried about prices. I am more concerned with issues pertaining their safety standards and maintenance procedures- how Air Asia maintain their aircrafts and etc.

I heard they like to 'combine loads' too. Meaning they can cancel non-profitable flight anytime and combine the flight to the next one to fill up one aircraft. Now I begin to wonder why there were so many delays and cancellations.

Emm..as for me it's depends. If I'm travel for a vacation with fren or alone and destination is just around Malaysia or other asian country, i'm prefer air asia because the price is economical. But if I'm travel for a vacation with my family, I'm prefer Malaysia Airlines because I have a younger brother which have autism, so to choose Malaysia Airlines is more convenient in term of services and punctuality compare to Air Asia which recently delay their flight + you've to walk quite far to the aeroplane.

I guess we can't compare Malaysia Airlines(MA) to Air Asia(AA) in term of services as MA services is much much better compare to AA. For me, what you pay is what you get :)

Air Asia is a low cost airline which is their motive is encouraged and make everybody can fly. If you travel with Air Asia there is no entertainment and for the food or drinks you need to pay by yourself when you are in board. Air Asia fleet currently is B737-300/400/500 which is quite an old aircraft and only recently they have A320 fleet which is relatively new aircraft that just received from airbus. Air Asia consists of three companies namely are Air Asia Malaysia, Air Asia Thai and Air Asia Indonesia. Only Air Asia Malaysia has the Airbus A320. However it would be depend on your luck. If you are lucky you will be flying with A320.
In term of maintenance of the aircraft, MAS is better since they have a lot of experience guy and their aircraft is well maintained and less flying time. Since the Air Asia is low cost carrier they will try to reduce the cost as much as possible and as well as their routine maintenance time and their aircraft will be always flying from morning until midnight and they will reuse the bolt or nuts that if they think it is still can be used.
However for the pilot training Air Asia have two A320 simulator which is quite new however their B737 simulator for flight training is not very good in shape.(Due to very old simulator).
Meanwhile MAS has an established training center for the pilot and their requirement is stricter than Air Asia.

As other comments MAS has reliable service and or in other word in my opinion higher standard of service and definitely this will push the ticket price in order to get the standard.

The good thing about Air Asia is they are good in advertisement and now everybody if u ask in Malaysia will know that Air Asia offer a very cheap fair ticket. You can get the seat if u are lucky with very good price but you need to book about a month before u fly then ,,u will get a very good deal.
Remember this is only one way.
Generally Air Asia will give you about 70% of the MAS fare.
Must remember Air Asia did not refund or u can't change your ticket.
Further more it is convenient to fly with MAS but definitely it will come with difference price.
ANY way up to u guys which one do you prefer and thinks about the aspect of safety, convenient price and quality. If u are going for company business for sure 'm recommend u o fly with MAS since it is more reliable and if u have a plenty of time and delay is not a big deal for u and u have a fix round trip u can use Air Asia since it will save your pocket money

It's easier to say that what you pay is what you get. I once took a flight to kuala terengganu and needless to say i felt rather uncomfortable. the seats were really close together and literally no space for your feet. it was delayed during departure n arrival. i had to walk quite far to the plane from lcct terminal. but since the journey was about 45 minutes i can deal with it. for my nest trip to alor setar i found out that MAS tickets is slightly cheaper so i chose MAS. we boarded on time and reach there i think 5 minutes earlier. we got great service form the crew and comfortable leg space even in the economy class. so eventhough it is a short journey i enjoyed it. my advice is don't expect too much when picking air asia, but survey MAS prices first before picking air asia, you might be lucky if MAS is slighlty more cheaper. If you are going for a 4 hour journey just pay a lil extra for a comfortable trip...

I think depends on the distance you travel, If less than 3 hours, within Malaysia then Air Asia, if more than 3 hours I will recommend MAS as Air Asia has limited space to move. I feel my body cramp after fly for 2,5 hours. It also depends on your budget.

Compare to MAS , Air Asia price is low and give more routine within the country. As multi race country it is a excess to all malaysian to have a budget tour within the country get know more about the Malaysia's tourism. it's better to every malaysian to know about Malaysia's culture to promote about Malaysia.

Air Asia - cheap only when you look much long advance before your trip. If travel plans are made impromptu, better use MAS as prices more or less the same. Expect delay from half an hour to 5 hours.

MAS - One of the most expensive airline.
