We bought a nice Grill (the one with the rottiserie and side burner) and we also bought the propane gas, but I think it's empty because it 's not working yet, do they sell those tanks empty? where does one go to refill it or exchange it for a full one? do you know how much it costs?

Home Depot and some other stores will exchange your new tank for a filled used tank. Try U-Haul or look in your local yellow pages for a propane filling station so you can hang onto your new tank.

Normally when you buy a grill the propane tank will come empty. You can get the tank filled at some gas stations or at Home Depot or another big home improvement store. I believe it costs somewhere around $10-$30 depending on where you go...

They do sell the gas tanks empty for safety reasons. Depending were you live some petrol stations refill gas bottles and some seven elevens have exchange tanks.

Also there is a very easy way to confirm if the tank is empty. Plus it will help you later on if you need to know how much gas you have left in the tank.
All you do is pour boiling water down the side of the tank. If there is gas in tank that part of the bottle will remain very cold. Where there is no gas the tank will stay hot for a short time from the boiling water.

Another handy hint is to have another small spare gas tank. There is nothing worse than getting half way though cooking and you run out of gas.

Yes, they are empty because of cost and safety.
You can refill them anywhere that sells propane/LP gas.
Also, exchange for $30-40 at Wal-Mart or Home Depot.

Filling it at fill station is cheaper. X-changing is easier.

Yes it's empty, it's easier and cheaper for them to ship, and sell them empty. Its about 25-30.00 to fill. It's called LP gas for when you call and ask if they fill them.
