The simplest version of it is: It is a game show, and it is all about luck.
You have 26 different cases, held by the models, each is marked to contain a different amount of money, from a million dollars all the way down to one penny. The amounts are supposed to be randomly put in the cases by a third party ahead of time so that nobody knows what's where.
At the beginning of any given game, a contestant will pick *one* case, that is supposed to have the big money in it. All the rest is a process of elmination, you find out what's in your own case by going through and opening all of the others....what's in those cases is not in the one you picked. The idea is that if you keep the bigger money amounts "in play" and not choose them once the game starts, you have a better "chance" of the big money being in your own case. So yeah, once the game starts, picking big money is bad (since it lowers your chances that you have it yourself) and picking small amounts is good (since nobody wants to go home with the penny).
And to make the situation weirder, there is the Banker, who wants to *buy* that first case you picked for as little as possible, based on his best guess as to what's really in there. So...if you're not lucky and didn't pick the big cash amount on the first pick, you can always play a "good game" and then take the best deal the Banker has to offer.
Catch is, you don't know whether your first choice is a good one or a bad one until after the game is ended for you. So you end up making mistakes, because you don't *know* what's going on.
That is the official version as far as I know...it gets weirder from there. ^_^ The reason for this seems to be that the show itself is *designed* to be confusing. There's the models, and they are cued to act and send all sorts of signals. There's the music and lighting, of course....and the Banker's always playing head games with the contestants, trying to get them to do anything *but* play the game well...
And what *is* the game? It's a harder version of Minesweeper. ^_^ Really. There are 26 cases....and seven *bombs* or huge money amounts (in six figures or higher). The idea is that you want to get a good first pick, sure, but after that happens and the game starts, you want to *avoid* the bombs so that the Banker offers you more money, with the idea being that you *take the best Deal* possible, ideally something in six figures that usually *will* be larger than your first pick. Why?
Because the first pick is random, but.....my humble guess, after watching a *lot* of _Deal..._ is that somehow, the *bombs* or the big money amounts *are* tagged and that someone *does* know, at least when someone's either *got* big money or is going to open it *and spoil their game*. How else can you explain how Howie Mandel and the Banker *time* their drama and head-games for effect, all the way down to commercial breaks? A lot of the drama that goes on in _Deal..._ just would not happen if the distribution was *truly* random and if *nobody* knew what was going on.
Somebody peeks in the cases somehow. Not the contestants and maybe not Mr. Mandel, but someone does, who runs the teleprompters and cues everyone *but* the contestant as to when *moments* are coming.
But of course, that is all just my cynical opinion. Truth is, the game would be hard *just as it is*, without all the confusing and distracting elements.
With them....well, nobody's won the million yet, have they?
Just saying....

The object of the game is to pick the suitcase with a million dollars or doubled to 2 million if a special event where all the values are doubled
I believe they get upset with picking the larger amounts is that if they do not hold the million dollars in their briefcase then they would like to hold one of those larger amounts .
The guy who is calling the contestant and the host, howie Mandel is known as the banker . The banker is trying to get as little as possible for the contestants' briefcase . He makes a deal with the contestant and the contestant has the option of dealing or no dealing . If they deal the money offered is theirs and no dealing means the game goes on until they do deal or there is 2 briefcases left.
It is done in a 6-5-4-3-2-1-1-1-1-1 fashion and the one they have totalling 26 briefcases. Each time the contestant picks the odds of getting the million would increase unless they choose it from one of the remaining 25 briefcases. It is based on good timing and when the odds are in your favor to receive a good prize.

well u are just playin against the banker. You pick your own suitcase and save it. Then, you pick another suitcase and open the cost of it. Then the banker will calculate and try to buy your own first suitcase to see if it's like the highest money and stuff. i really dun know how to explain it.. try playin deal or no deal online
it mightbe better

Whatever case u chose is ur case. the other cases u cchose that amount is not in ur case. when the banker calls for deals you can either take that money or chose more cases.
It's a good show once u understand it!
