Eventually I would like to move down there and want to know what the average rent is for a one bedroom apartment or 2 bedroom apartment. What is the minimum wage there?

My hubby and I rent a large (950 sq. ft.) 1 bedroom basement suite with fenced in yard, all utilities included, for $500 a month in Vancouver, just a few blocks west of Burnaby. This is a very good deal, but obviously if we found it, they exist.

More commonly, in this area, (Burnaby, east Vancouver near Burnaby) you can expect to pay $600 to $800 for a one bedroom apt. and $650 to $950 for a two bedroom. Some will include utilities and some won't, it's a matter of shopping around. However, there are a lot of basement suites around here, which generally rent for less than an unit in an apt. complex.

Avoid downtown eastside Vancouver, i.e. east Hastings area from Main St. east to Nanaimo St. at all costs. Print out a map and map out that area, and don't even consider renting there.

Downtown, the West Side, West Vancouver municipality, North Vancouver will all be considerably more expensive. We rented a very basic 2 bdrm apt in North Vancouver for $1,150 a month plus utilities, and that is pretty avg for those areas. My stepson rented a tiny (400 sq. ft) one bedroom apt. downtown for $975 a month.

Minimum wage is $8.

Most other costs of living will be the same as elsewhere in Canada. Where are you moving from?
