This seems to fit the question, so I'll toss in my favorite quote here ( borrowed ): "An educated idiot is still an idiot." Actually I recite this to myself often when meeting or dealing with people at work or in life in general.
It seems that people nowadays expect results without doing a little leg work for themselves. Reading anymore seems to be a challenge and a chore to many. We are a generation of "I don't want to learn it on my own, just tell me what I need to know."
Rant on, my brother!

1. If you don't like a question, don't answer it.
2. The Hockey section is hardly getting "cluttered". Most questions come at least a few minutes apart, it is fairly easy to see the day's questions. Wish more people would get into Hockey and it would be MORE cluttered.
3. The "prediction" and "opinion" questions are FUN. Ever buy a Hockey magazine in the pre-season it is FILLED with predictions about how teams will fare. No, we are NOT fortune-tellers, but we DO want to know WHY people think [insert team here] will win the cup or why [insert player here] was the best defenseman of all time.
4. Any help I can offer on the rules, great! I want MORE people watching games. I could care less that they can google it.
5. If you don't like a question, don't answer it.

I agree with some of what you say. Like the same questions over and over--Why are the Canadiens called Habs, that is asked at least twice a day.
Some of the questions they ask about the rules of hockey they could look up themselves. But it is not going to kill someone to help out a new fan.
But as far as being offend by someone asking who is going to win the Cup. Who is the best team, etc. THIS IS an opinion site. So you ask questions to get opinions.
I'm not sure I understand what questions you would consider acceptable.

The schools in Canada must really suck, eh? (Just kidding!) I'm with you 100% on the spelling and grammatical errors being inexcusable, but I think people who are trying to further their knowledge by asking others who know about something are OK. Why not utilize this section of Y!A for new fans to step up and learn from those of us who've been around the sport a little? Be more welcoming to the newbies; new fans have to come from somewhere, right?
P.S. You made a punctuation error. "Are you one of the many dolts asking dumb questions" is a question, not a statement. As such it should end with a question mark, not a period. Just thought I'd point that out to you before you continued railing against the rest of society.

Do you feel better now after venting?!
I agree that some of the questions on here are repetitive and ridiculous. The grammar and spelling are sometimes pathetic.
When you ask a question, as you're typing it out similar questions pop up below it to try and save the ask-er (and apparently some answerer's) time. Honestly, I don't think people know that they can look up a topic on past questions to get answers. This whole site is fairly new. Sometimes it's easier to come to a site like this to find something out because you get a multitude of answers and opinions in one place.
I have to admit I get really sick of the "oh my god who is the hottest player" and "Wow did so and so look hot or what?". I come to this section to hear about the actual sport being played not about who's hot. I can watch the games and find out for myself. I really don't care about who others are checkin' out.
As was stated previously, this IS an opinion based site. Furthermore, "Clueless_Nerd" is right on with his ENTIRE answer! I love reading the predictions and opinions about teams and players. It's what makes a site like this entertaining. I actually learn something new once in awhile :) I would also love to get some new fans into the sport knowing a thing or two besides the obvious.
I see where you're coming from, but try to lighten up a little.

See? If the ones idiots have been on Y|A, they might now not make the ones errors. They'd have have learn this publish and might recognise higher! Lighten up, humans. It's a shaggy dog story answer to a shaggy dog story. I recognise, I recognise, I have got to quit comedy.

AMEN. Sweet Jesus. Finally someone brings this up. This is by FAR the best question today. Nobody here is Nostradamus to tell you who will win the cup. Also, these questions that you can just google, like Christ, do your own leg work, you'll be smarter for it. READ.
Also, as you type your question. You see similar questions that have arised-like 3 hours ago. I don't mind some opinion questions, like who is better than who type thing but look up how standings are calculated, who had the most goals..............
Well I'm at it, I was wondering, does Sidney Crosby have a girlfriend???????// LOL
GOOD QUESTION
Also, if you look it up, you'll get the correct answer instead of a bunch of gibberish you get on this site 3/4 of the time.

NO!!!!! You are! What are you thinking, cluttering up the hockey section asking a stupid question, "Are you the Idiot?".
Oh ya... and about "poor spelling and grammar" (MR. SMARTY PANTS), haven't you ever heard of a typo!?!
Also, this is a site for finding out the answers to questions! If people didn't ask what is offsides or any of the other questions then there would be a GRAND TOTAL of 0 questions on this site!!!

Amen to that. I left this site for a good month before I came back on tonight out of boredom. Strange to see that people still haven't learned to click on "Check Spelling," or better yet, click on the questions that comes up during the auto-search. Oh, well, we still need people to ask, "Do you want fries with that?"

I agree most questions that are asked seem to be from people who must have taken the Evelen Woodhead spead ridden course, or must be still in the the 8th grade.D
