Is a person more related to their grandmother or their child?

It is believed that a niche of reptiles deemed the paramammals, which have sufficient distinctions between both reptiles and mammals, to suggest that mammals indeed evolved from reptiles.

Thus Mammals are children of Reptiles.

However, Fish evolved into Amphibians and those evolved into Reptiles.

So as I first mentioned, fish are the Grandparents of Reptiles, while mammals are the children of Reptiles.

Technically, Fish are twice removed from reptiles while Mammals are direct decendents from that group. So Mammals are closer.

The amniotic egg allowed the ancestors of birds, mammals, and reptiles to reproduce on land by preventing the embryo inside from drying out, so eggs could be laid away from the water. So reptiles are closer to mammals than to the fish.

.

The transition from water to land was one of the most significant events in animal evolution. The amniotic egg allowed colonization of land to proceed. Similarly the development of the vagina .The vagina is an entirely new structure, which has no homolog in amphibians or reptiles.
Here we compare these lineages from the earliest known fossil occurrences. This is just a way to group observable similarities of physical function. Here we split land dwelling creatures from those that remain in the sea. This split occured before the reptile mammal split. Hence we consider they are closely related to each other than the fish.
In molecular biology, proteins of the same type in different organisms can be tested for difference in amino acid makeup. Typically the degree of homology (degree of similarity or difference) is expressed as a percentage. If comparing percent difference the low numbers show less difference. Look at the chart to see examples based on Cytochrome C, a protein that converts food into energy, and hemoglobin.

Based on the data in the chart comparing one gene in modern representatives (snapping turtles (reptile), horses (mammal), pigeons (bird), and bonito (fish)) we could say that fish show slightly more difference to mammals at 17% than to reptiles at 16%.
The reptile is closest to the bird (at 8% difference) then the mammal (at 11% difference) and then the fish (at 16% difference) in its Cytochrome C.
These numbers represent the amount of change since the modern animals shared common sequences assuming they underwent the same rate of mutational change.

i definitely think they are more related to fish because they are cold blooded, but i just realized that dinosaurs have very similar skeletal structures to birds... but i would go with the fish.
