The thing that you should realize is that fish are living beings as well. I don't think that you should ever give them back to the pet store just because you don't want them any more. You should only give them back if you cannot do anything to take care of them. They have gotten used to you and know you. They have also gotten used to the conditions that you provide them. Pet stores don't take care of them as well as you do. Some don't even care if they live or die. Fish aren't toys that you can just forget about when you are done with them. They are living creatures and should be treated as such. If you want to get rid of them for a reason like you found something better then you shouldn't be keeping fish until you have reached a higher level of maturity.

My suggestion is that if you really want a saltwater tank you should save your money and set up a whole new tank. In my opinion you can never have too many tanks as long as you can take care of them. You could start out by buying and establishing a new tank. Then you could buy fish in pairs or by themselves. It would be cool to watch your tank grow and you wouldn't be passing off your current fish to someone who isn't going to take care of them as well as you will.

there have been a whole lot of advances in salt water fish keeping, so its not as hard as it used to be

the first think i would do is get a book on salt water fish keeping, you need a big tank though, something 55 or more, to keep these fish healthy

and your right it is expensive, but your 11, so enjoy the finer things while you dont have rent, car insurance and kids with expensive hobbies of thier own to support

i am a young fishkeeper too, and am always saving my money for fish supplies. i would stay with the freshwater, because there is less to worry about. those fish are very delicate, and ten times more expensive. if you want more exotic looking fish, try cichlids. they are a fish family that come from south america and africa. they in my opinion, are very easy to care for. you didn't say your tank size, but 30 gallons or more. a good place to buy cichlids from is petsmart. that's where i buy mine from. they look like saltwater fish, but don't require as much care. go online and type in cichlid on images. decide for yourself. but for an 11 year old, to balance school and a saltwater aquarium would be too much.
