I'm a tenured social studies teacher, but my position has been cut from next year's budget, so now I'm out of a job next year after 5 years. I'm considering changing careers, but am not quite sure what I'm "qualified" to do with my education.

I really don't want to move, but would if it paid better than what I make now. I'm 35, and have a wife and 2 kids, and somewhat think this has happened for a reason, and the right job will fall into my lap.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Look into corporate training, for instance at an insurance agency. You'd probably be creating presentations, running group orientations, etc, much like lesson planning and teaching. Other options might be working at a non-profit, either with kids, or something historical.

1. Working for a museum.
2. Park ranger, particularly at a park that has a lot of history related to it.
3. History related magazine or website.
4. Hire out to research and write histories of churches, organizations, towns, etc.
