If you have a USB Flash drive, you can increase the performance of your system with Vista's ReadyBoost memory expansion feature.

Vista is a resource eatin mofo...512mb of ram just for Vista. Your computer should run the thing fine though even in Vista...saying Vista is the problem is a bit premature even though it does suck. Your 4.2 rating is pretty good though.

1st thing I would do is reinstall the driver. Remember if your going from 32bit windows XP to 64bit Windows Vista there is a different driver for your video card. Thats probably what the problem is. Google "Radeon support x1800xl" make sure that you download the 64bit driver...if it's even compatible.

2nd thing I would do is get an overlcock program for your video card. I have ATI Tools Tray...it's pretty easy to navigate once you look around the program. I have my Radeon ATI 9550 256mb running at 360mb.

3rd thing...Drop Vista or Dual boot with XP. You have enough space for XP.

So...hit me up with those 10 points :)

the problem is vista itself:

Getting a little more ram might help some (2gb total), but still limited. Vista may never be fixed for "gaming". just keep checking for drivers, or go back to XP.
