As a past high school and college cheerleader, and current coach, I can tell you what we look for in tryouts.

First and foremost we stress academics. Being a good cheerleader requires a great deal of practice, and this can sometimes hurt your grade point average. We always stress that you can't go on in life to make a living at cheerleading....you have to have an education to do that. Girls must maintain a 2.5 or better grade point average or risk being dropped from the squad for a season. If the grade point average is not raised, she is dropped for the year.

As for the actual requirements:

Knowledge of routines, cheers and chants: Know them backwards and forwards....well enough to begin them anywhere in the middle of the cheer. I have seen many good candidates dropped due to the inability to start a cheer at any point in the routine. We teach one cheer, one chant and a pretty complex 1 minute dance routine. The girls are given 3 days to learn this with tryouts on day 4. I always encourage my girls to take video of these lessons...they can then go home and work at their own pace to learn the moves. This saved me sooooo many times!!!

Tumbling/Gymnastics to include cartwheel, roundoff, and back hand spring. Girls who can do a tuck usually get extra points. Your school may not require this kind of tumbling....ask about what is required and then do what you do best and nail it!!! Remember to have lots of enthusiasm and spunk!

Flexibility and Posture: Be able to do splits and heal stretch. In a Liberty or heal stretch position, hold your balance for 20 seconds. Extra points are given for girls who can do arabesques or scorpions. You can see examples of this a cheerleading.about.com

Judges always look for personality and smiles as well as how well the contender keeps their movements sharp and in proper form! No sloppy arms, wrists etc. You can lose lots of points in this area.

The girls must do 3 jumps: herkie, toe touch, 1 other. You can work on these first on the floor....stretching yourself just a little bit more everyday until you have proper form. Then work on taking it to the air. When you have your prep and jump perfected, put 1/2-1 pound weights on each ankle and jump with them on from that point on. When it comes time for tryouts, take the weights off...you'll jump higher than ever because you have become used to jumping with more weight!

Most of all, the judges are looking for girls who have the ability to work as a team and engage the crowd to cheer on their school! make the judges feel like cheering with you by engaging them every time you get a chance.

On tryout day, eat a good breakfast...with complex carbs. Go to the tryouts with your hair up off of your face and in a ponytail, little or no makeup and no jewelry. Let them know that you are a serious contender and not there for a beauty contest!

hope that helps! good luck!

Hate to mention but when your dad may not aid you, I wish that your mother will. I am a center institution cheerleading instruct and cheerleading isn't affordable. Of direction center schoolers shouldn't have jobs to pay for camp, uniforms, and many others. and although you might get a task, you do not have time to paintings and move to after institution practices, conferences, and video games.... and do not forget assignments. You will want anybody to support you pay the charges. Is your cheerleading squad conventional or recreation? A conventional squad is the squad that does the pep rally, cheers at video games from the sidelines, and would possibly do a part time efficiency. A recreation squad is a squad that travels across the country competing. Most of the game squads are co-ed, enormously proficient, enormously problematic stunts, killer flips, you get the factor. Its just like the Bring it On Squads. If your institution has a conventional squad, all you need to do is have a few kind of rhythm and get a former cheerleader or one who has already made the squad to train you. You might move to a UCA camp. They will train you the fundamentals of cheerleading. I believe this would be the high-quality choice. If your squad is a recreation squad, your possibilities of creating the squad are very narrow until you could have had years of gymnastics. Whatever occurs, I want you the high-quality of good fortune. Keep attempting and paintings rough. Remember Cheerleading is rough paintings, if it was once any less difficult, it could be known as Football!

If you follow these directions correctly, you'll most likely get on the cheerleading team.
First, learn how to do a few jumps and stunts. Try jumps like toe touch, or left herkie. Some stunts you should do is the thigh stand (requires at least 4 people). You can practice the jumps on a trampoline and the stunts you should do soft mats (not grass).
Tryouts

A couple of days before tryouts, practice hard with other people. Make sure you don't practice too hard, you will hurt yourself. Also practice how to perform in front of crowds. Make sure you get enough sleep and eat breakfast at least 3 hours before you tryout. Try to wear a skort or shorts. Wear good sneakers like Nike, Skechers, K-Swiss, or cheerleading shoes. Good Luck!

Me and my friend tried out for something similar, it was called flag girl where you did a lot of dancing and choreography. It was kind of like cheerleading but we worked with the band. You should get together with someone who knows some cheer drills or get a video and practice. Most of the girls who try out know what their doing. Seriously, PRACTICE HARD. During tryouts they went so fast with the routine that I could hardly keep up.

you got some really good advice here.

All that I can add it make sure that your grades are up, it appears as though you may be having some difficulty in spelling and usage of the english language.

Cheerleading can be very time consuming, and even if you make the squad, if your grades drop...they will drop you.

good luck

Try to take a few rec. cheer classes and a tumbling class or two. Personally high school cheerleading is only funn if you make varsity so try all star especially if you arent very good yet!
