What WAS the Secession Crisis? It was a political act of one state dissolving itself from a union with other states by an act of Congress. The very act itself was not an act of war, but the events that occurred in 1860 and 1861 after the initial secession (the forceful takeover of federal arsenals, forts, post offices, etc.) did constitute "an act of rebellion". The eventual secession of the southern states, the acts of rebellion, and the fate of the Union all were a part of what became the U.S. Civil War.

It is a disagreement that usually leads to civil war, or secession, but not always. Secession = creating a new nation from an existing nation and then a fight ensues(?) or we do it frienndly like.
