Dear Kathryn:

I enjoyed so much listening to your audition at Missouri State on videotape. Sorry that I could not be there to hear you in person. You have a fine talent. I want to let you know that I am recommending you for a choral scholarship. A letter will be sent to you in the next few days confirming the award.

I look forward so much to having you in the program. Auditions for the Concert Chorale and other choirs will be held the first two days of school in August. I hope you will audition for the Chorale, which is planniing a tour to Vienna, Slovenia, Venice, Florence, and Rome. You can go to www.concertchorale.com for information on the Chorale.
My best,
Dr. Guy B. Webb

Dr. Webb enjoyed your audition so much that he is recommending that you get a scholarship. You should hear from them soon. It sounds like they are looking forward to having you in their program. You will have to wait to see how much of a scholarship they offer you. So be prepared to possibly be responsible for some of your expenses.

Good job on your tryout.

Sounds to me like you will be in. The only problem might be if they have an abundance of sopranos (or whatever range you are in) and they have to make some choices to keep their choral program balanced with various voice parts.

How long ago was your audition? If you haven't already done so, why don't you write a short and polite note (maybe to the chair of the music department or to the head of the choral program.) Thank them for the audition opportunity, tell them you appreciated the positive feedback, and reiterate your desire to become a student in their program. Don't go overboard but a short thank you wouldn't hurt either way because it is a polite and professional thing to do.

Waiting is hard, but most faculty are very careful not to say anything that would lead someone on if they had doubts about the student. Good luck!
