Ok first off, I'm American and I love soccer too much. Although I enjoy some American sports (not including baseball), nothing compares to soccer. And the idiot who said that soccer is not physical** is not very intelligent. Soccer is very physical and I hate how my own Americans say stupid things like this. Soccer is my true passion and it is not true that all Americans hate soccer.

It's an age old question, there are multiple reasons, soime belive because england loved it so much as an act of rebellion the americans stoped playing during the revolution and the sport never took off again, another belife is that America developed so many other sports they kicked football out, the reason the sport has not grown today is most americans find it boring mostly due to the lack of goals/rapid shooting, for example look at baseball america's game, games can score into the teens, or basketball a score every few seconds, this is mainly due to the american society of go go go, there are so many other belifs the list could go on and on, but those are some of the major reasons, as to thinking they are better that is completely wrong because then they would be football adicts to try and prove that

It's not that they don't like it. They're just not exposed to it as much as they are exposed to the other sports. It does not get the same media exposure that American football, basketball, and baseball gets. The universities and colleges don't promote is as much as they promote the other games. The advertisers can't plug in too many TV commercials during the match because it's a continuous 45 minutes plus injury time per half so that does not help make it popular with the advertisers or the TV stations. The other reasons are the low scores, games decided by penalty kicks, offside rule, English origin, "boring", to name a few. I don't think it has anything to do with being better than the rest of the world. Just different from the rest of the world.
Anyway, I think football is becoming more popular in the US, specially with all the foreigners migrating to the US. It's just called soccer here. I'm a foreigner living in Arizona and I love football (a.k.a soccer). It's a beautiful game.

First off, the second part of your question tells me that it is a loaded question, and that you aren't really looking for a real answer, just another jab at Americans. The answer is NO, the Americans do not think that we're better than you in regards to soccer. How many World Cups have we won, Einstein?
But I'll answer it anyways.
Soccer is the most popular sport among American youth, by a mile. Every single little kid in America seems to be in soccer league, and the numbers back this up too.
The problem is with "specialty sports". The parents of the kids begin to believe that their kids can excel in one sport, and as they get older, they specialize them into one of those sports. Either football (American) baseball, basketball, or hockey. Early on, American youth play every sport. I played every single sport known to man growing up. But as I got older, it got less and less, as I found what sport I was best at. Then I focused on that. Not only because it was my best sport, but because it was a chance to excel in it, have a good time, and perhaps get a college scholarship in it.
So of all of the little kids who played soccer when they were growing up, they get filtered into their best sport, which may not be soccer, because the U.S. has so many pro leagues which promise riches and a nice standard of living. Soccer doesn't give that in the U.S. A college scholarship is nice, but few are pushing for that because after that, what else is there? The MLS? Most of our best players go overseas anyways.
Soccer just has never become a part of our mainstream culture. There are other sports that are much bigger. That's the answer.

The Americans already have Baseball and American Football along with Basketball and Ice Hockey. So for them Football is a childrens sport. But I think they don't play it because they want to be the best and independant and also compared to their other sports they don't have much pacience for it. But then again we don't play much of their sports!

It's not a matter of Americans thinking they are better than the rest of the world, it's a matter of what you grew up doing. Did the pilgrims play soccer? Do you like NASCAR, how about baseball? Japan and the Caribbean Islands like baseball, not cricket. Does that make them better than you? If you want to slam Americans, don't do it over liking or not liking a sporting event. Rugby is close to American football; how do you like rugby, or are you better than the rest of the world?

Not all American's hate football. I for one play for my highschool team and watch as much as I can on the Tele. I think that the main reason people don't watch soccer is that they feel that it is too slow compared to the American counterpart which played during the same time of the year.

Americans don't like low scoring, low action games. Personally, I think a soccer game is packed with action, you just have to understand the game. The quality of the MLS is nothing compared to the Premiership, and I don't think this helps either. Another reason could be that they can't beat the rest of the world at it, unlike most other sports.

I have to admit I know some fellow Americans that refer to Soccer as that "communist sport".
Americans have two major problems with football.
1)The referee has too much of an influence on the game due to the low scoring nature of soccer. That is why we see all of the diving. It reminds us too much of politics and not sport.
2) Deciding games by penalty kicks seems like a horrible way to decide a contest. It rewards cautious play and discourages risk raking. Somewhat bureaucratic.

America dont like soccer i think b/c it's boring and we dont understand the game. Most americans understand games like baseball and American football and basketball. I dont think it's fair. I think americans should learn more about the game and watch it. We should give soccer a chance even though it is kinda boring.....sorry. Pe@ce out!!
