Dampen the area and then put baking soda on it. Leave it for a while and go back and if need to repeat again. It has worked for me.

If its Polyester or Nylon, blood will not stain those fibers. So just take treated tissue, the kind you get in your local gas station for window cleaning, and work the blood right out of the carpet onto the tissue. This is a very good method of removing spot stains from carpets as it doesnt attack and disolve the stain like a caustic or oxidizing agent or solvent would do.

Chemicals like caustic rug cleaner and oxidizing agents will stain the carpet, so avoid using those. And you dont want a "clean ring" in your carpet which those will cause.

If you choose to use peroxide, mix it 50/50 with water. Oh and be sure to rinse it and dab as dry as possible. Peroxide will cause fading or bleaching if you are not careful. It's always important to never mix hot water with the blood - this will only help the stain set. Be sure to use the coldest possible water.
