It only works for 72 hours after sex (about 85% effective). It only prevents implantation of the fertilized egg.

Technically, it doesn't work after conception at all. Once the sperm and egg meet and implant in the uterus (conception), the pill does nothing. It can however keep the sperm and egg from meeting or implanting in the uterus if taken before this occurs. You can take it up to 72 hours after the sex act, but if conception happened to occur before then. it would have no effect. That's why it's only 89% effective...11% of the time, implantation happens before the 72 hour mark...and occasionally before the 24 hour mark.

The morning after pill will only be effective if taken within 72 hours after the sexual intercourse. You may want to do a pregnancy test if you think you're already pregnant.

within 72 hours of having sex- The morning after pill is dangerous to you- first you must find out if you are already pregnant from a previous sexual encounter. Also it is a stronger amount of birth control pills- it puts you into a hormonal mess- it can cause bleeding and other problems. Please consider carrying your child if you are pregnant.
