I would suggest looking into getting liability insurance...as most people will want to make sure you are insured/bonded before you start to do work on their homes. As far as determining what to charge to ensure you are getting a fair price...I would call around to other local handyman services and ask them for their rates per hour or project. If you call a handful of them, you should be able to quickly determine what the going rate is in your area and also be able to factor your price you will charge somewhere in the middle so you are not the most expensive or inexpensive service out there.

You charge the customer based on your experience, and if you are just starting I wouldn't be charging them a whole lot because if you make to many mistakes their not going to pay you. how do you become a handyman work for someone who is a handyman first and learn the trades. Some trades require a license, it depends on what your doing. I do provide my customers with a service and I can make up to 85.00 per hour. But I would say the average guy out there might charge the customer about 25.00 per hour and that would be a handyman with experience.

Hang out with your uncle that is a jack-of-all trades and shadow him until you know what you are doing.
Next, get licensed and insured.
