How about determining the age of a tree by the number of rings. Use cuts from various trees of various ages. Have the children compare the ages with the size of the rings. Tell which year may have been the best year for growth (a wider ring). Compare the likeness and dis-likeness of the oldest and youngest tree. Research more and come up with ideas children can discover just about the rings of a trees growth.
Good luck! I have many more ideas too.

Okay i have two ideas. Idea #1 is diet coke and mentos which explains a chemical reaction. Idea #2 is making a battery out of pennies and dimes they are both fairly easy.

I did one in 3rd grade where I made 5 different stains on a a piece of cloth ( ketchup, mustard, soy sauce, wine, strawberry juice, etc......u do this on 5 pieces of cloth, same stain in same spot [ex. sample 1 even size stain of ketchup in spot 1, sample 2 even size stain of ketchup spot in spot 1]). Then pick 5 different types of detergents. Wash each piece of cloth seperatly and see what detergent gets what type of stain out best or see what detergent gets the over all stains out.
