(from her BF) The question is about more HP.....you BETCHA!
Look at any motor as a huge air pump, the more air you can get in and out of a given size motor, the more power you can get out of it. That also means the less restrictions to airflow, the easier you can make more horsepower, and some increases in mileage. Simple as that...
...I'm sorry ....not to be insulting.... but the LAST guys to ask about building horsepower is an autodealership, most are more concerned with keeping your car stock so that they can be the ones to repair it and sell you THEIR parts. Rarely are any of them involved in high performance let alone racing.
...The secret here is learning to upgrade and maintain. Any upgrades you make will also require your attention and commitment to maintenance .....if the maker of your air intake system says clean every (X number) of miles - do it! Most problems with K&N style filters is solved by just following the directions and not spraying too much oil on them. you'll find this to be true with any aftermarket parts you buy. Good luck and go cruz'n !

It is a good filtration system. It WILL decrease the resistance of airflow into your engine. This will lead to a small gain in horsepower and maybe a very small increase in mileage.
The problem with the K&N filter is maintenance, yes, the filter will last forever if you maintain it properly. If you don't maintain it properly, you might ruin the filter or hurt your engine.
The K&N requires washing, drying, and re-oiling which can be a pain for some owners. There are other high flow air filters that are available for vehicles today that use paper elements. Sometimes replacing the paper element is easier than washing and re-oiling, but it's your call...
If you get a K&N, you'll get the sticker to put on your back glass... Thats good for like 5 horsepower..lol

I think that it can, but don't think it's worth the risk. You may get a couple of horses out of it, if that, but the potential damage to the mass air flow sensor far outweighs any possible benefit, which, by the way, you will not be able to feel without putting the vehicle on a dyno. A two horsepower increase will NOT be felt, I don't care what anyone says. They do allow more air in, but they can also allow more particles past the filter, which can accelerate engine wear. In order to function okay, they have to be very carefully maintained, with just the right amount of oil. Still, the danger of mass air flow contamination is strong, and the MAF is the most important sensor input to the powertrain control module for fuel control. Problems with this sensor can range from poor fuel economy and sluggish performance to not allowing the vehicle to run. I think that if you called the manufacturer of your car, the dealer, they would tell you the same thing and strongly discourage you from using them, unless you are racing quarter miles and you need the extra thousandth of a second to win. Otherwise, there just isn't any purpose for them.

The answer is yes...the K and N filter chargers allow the engine to breathe in roughly 20% more air through the use of
mesh sandwiched/formed gauze that is laced with light oil.
The drawback is an increase in number and size of particulates that pass through and cause wear on your bore linings and oil contamination on your MAF sensor.
The best ones are the stock airbox insert type K and Ns....
it limits the induction of these particulates...so all you have to worry about it the MAF sensor getting oily...easy to clean and check for it though.
Yield is usually between 2-5 horsepower depending on the engine and other modifications.
good luck

Yes you will get a slight increase in power however,K&N filters do not filter micro dirt particles as well as a good old paper element, the also need to cleaned and maintained regularly.personally,I would rather have the filter that keeps more dirt out vs. a measaly couple of H.P. Your choice.

yes it will, k&n is just a name brand, any larger more dense air filter will purify the air more allowing more air to enter the engine giving more horsepower. to get even more horse power get larger exhaust or duel exhaust. i use them on all my cars that i have been street racing for years!

Yes, it does. The air is colder and you are getting more air mass into the engine. So this helps increase power and feul efficiency.
