You can feed garlic to help keep the flies away. The best fly spray I have ever tried is called Pyrahna. It is awesome!

There are several actually. The most popular is probably Equitrol II. The thing to remember, though, is that it does not actually repel flies around the horse. Instead, it prevents the growth of stable and house flies in the manure of treated horses. This cuts down on the amount of flies around the stable, but cannot prevent insects from biting the horse, especially on the trail.
Really, there is no 100% effective method to cut down on flies. The sprays help, but eventually the flies build up a resistance. You want to vary the type of spray you use. Repel-X, Farnam Equisect, Equicare Super 7, and Eqyss Marigold seem to work best for me. Bronco, Absorbine Super Shield, and Nature's Defense never did a thing for me. In fact, I could swear Nature's Defense actually attracted the darn bugs.

Yes there are products that you can feed your horse that will control the flies around the barn and pastures, This is what I use it is called SimplFly... I start to feed in early March and end the feeding in late October
I also use the Crusader Quiet Ride Fly Mask while I ride and I put on Endure fly spray, for me this works and my horse doesn't seem to be fighting so much while we ride.

Yes there is but I cant remember the name. I use it on my horse in the summer.I have a bucket out in the barn but I am not going out there right now to get the name of it. It can be bought at any horse supply store or on the Internet. It really works quit well.It does not keep flies off the horse but keeps flies from hatching and laying in there poop.
