For the uninformed out there. Fred Thompson was a conservative Senator from Tennesse a few years back. At the time he was in Congress he was one of the most honest, strightforward, respectable, principled persons you could want as your elected representative. When you compare those traits with the other candidates you can understand why there would be such support for a man like that.

People dislike McCain and Giuliani.

I haven't heard of Fred Thompson and I live in Tennessee, even near Memphis, where the Draft Fred Thompson website is based, which apparently crashed due to demand.

This country is in so much trouble I think people want someone who looks and acts like an elder statesman. A man of great character. Someone like your Grandfather who spoke his mind and meant it. Someone who you knew would be there if you needed him. Someone who has become fulled with wisdom that you can only gain through time and experience. I get that feeling about him just listening to the few clips I have heard. I am not saying that he is that kind of man, but he may be. When you see Bill Clinton you don't see a man like that. I kind of picture him running around the Oval Office with his pants down........

He has a reputation as an honest guy who tells it like he sees it. He chose not to run for re-election to the US Senate in 2002 even though he was a shoe-in to win. That tells me that there's more to him than just wanting to be a career politician.

There's also a lot of support for him to join because the current candidates from both parties are lacking.

He is a very direct, and honest person. And he was quite a lawman/judge in his day. He was honored on his bench because of his straight forward knowledge and honesty.

If he runs, he's got my vote.

Maybe because he's on TV and conservatives don't have a good solid choice yet.

I don't think that there is, he seems to like the way bush performs and that will not help him.
