I was a former government worker, with an excellent working background. I failed a drug test, even though I am not a drug user. I tried to fight it, but my finances ran short. The government kept appealing, which cost me money and time. Now I dont know how to address the situation when I apply for a job. I have always had an impeccable record and was a high achiever. I am currently working out of the countrey as an English teacher, but, I would love to come home. However, I want a job commensurate with my skills. Also, I am in my 50's. And no, the government does not allow for re-testing and their lab had a mistake on the dates twice.

False positives do happen, however most employers will have a hard time believing your story. Which is really too bad.

Tell the truth, it's the best I can tell you. As long as you pass a test, and are able to submit to random drug testing, most companies can deal with that. I know I have hired people that were fired for similar reasons, but eventually their name comes up on a random and they generally pass.
