She's correct. Ph.D and M.D. are two different degrees. (to be picky, you CAN get your Ph.D without getting a Masters in some cases.)

Just to add a bit to her great summary....In the US, you can apply to attend a medical school if you have completed a Bachelors degree and taken the MCAT exam.

After you compete the schooling, then you can take your board exams. Once you pass both, you would then be considered an M.D. and can practice medicine, though Residency is required before you can practice privately, I believe.

There are two types of degrees that you are referring to. A medical doctor has a M.D. (medical degree: 4 yrs. in med school after 4 yrs. of college to earn a bachelor of science degree=B.S.). A person with a Ph.D. (doctor of philosophy) has earned a bachelor of science or arts (4 yrs.) plus a masters degree (2-3 yrs.) and doctorate (3-7 yrs.).

Both degreed professionals are considered, and referred to as, doctors. Each has a different background. For example, a psychologist has a Ph.D., yet cannot prescribe drugs. Only a medical doctor can do that!

I hope this helps!

Best wishes.

you do not get a doctorate (PhD) in Med college. You get an MD. All Med scholars take a similar courses all 4 years, then be conscious for a Residency in a uniqueness (surgical operation, kinfolk medicine, and so on). you could enter a Surgical Residency from ANY scientific college in Michigan. you could not "bypass" the MCAT - you get a score on a scale from a million-40 5, and then placed up that score on your colleges. the two that is extreme adequate to get you conventional or that is not, yet there is not any legitimate "passing" score, in view that each college has a various regular MCAT score. you will might desire to be conscious to greater Med colleges than merely those in Michigan - there are merely 4 in state, and maximum scholars be conscious to ten or greater (and then evaluate themselves fortunate to get right into a million).
