Liberals- You seem to want to be thought of as libertarian yet you want a larger government. Why do you contradict yourselves? Im not saying all, but as a whole. Give me a clear concise answer please. Try to be convincing. Also tell me exactly why you think that Iraq is not a legitmate war, and that we are "bogged down" when in fact the war is over and we won and we are there as a security force against extremists. Try to convince me otherwise. Base this on facts. Also address what you think is right and wrong.

g- Its not what I believe is moral or right its what is. Based on the two natural laws, do all you agree to do, and do not encroach on others. If I told you I made up a new law of science would you not laugh? You cannot make up laws only discover them. Right and wrong cannot be relative because of this.

I am something of a liberal and libertarian. The republicans also want smaller government, but we have had an increase of government and beauracy with them in charge these last few years. I tend to believe that regulation can be a double edged sword. When we try to legislate everything under the sun, we are intruding upon the right to privacy. Iraq is not a legitimate war, because one the Senate never declared "war" on Iraq, it authorized military force, a major difference in the fact that if war was declared, certain powers and acts would be enacted. This is the first time when people throw around the word war, that American have not been asked to sacrifice anything other than their your and intelligence. Instead of rationing gas, oil, energy, raw materials, food for the war effort we are told go spend, go to the mall, go to a show, spend your money. Yes the current government in Iraq and the military is wiped out and trying to be replaced. But according to our leader, the enemies of democracy are still there, so technically there is still fighting and thus "war" there. I think more people would be accpeting of it if the truth about the whole conflict came out, it started as a threat or possilbe threat to National Security...last I looked Iraq was thousands of miles away with little or no air force or Navy, no intercontienal ballistic missles, yet we have N. Korea a very violent country that now has the ability to strike US targets, yet we do nothing. Then it was to liberate the Iraqi people, which I am sure a section of the population wanted to be, and I am glad for them. But democracy isn't a gift you can just roll in and say here it is...it has to be earned for one, and the people have to want it for themselves.

could you try and fit like 8 more questions into this space please?
how about seperating your questions out... and asking them individually in a slightly more clear manner... I'll answer your first question... what do you stand for
liberals stand for, overall, freedom and the freedom to have a difference of opinion...
so, that being the case, it's very difficult to "pin point" an overall belief structure or ideology, since the very base idea is that of "a collection of many different ideas"...
many believe that the government should stay out of your life, unless you need help... then it can help you... that seems to be the major difference between libertarian and liberal... libertarian wants the government out of your life and no help from it... liberals want government out with the option of help if needed...
of course, some want more government than that too...
oh, ok, I'll touch on your other issue briefly...
why is Bush still calling it a war then?
personally I agree with you about the "state" of the war, but I also think it's about as stable as it's going to get, kind of like Israel, where they still have bombings a lot... bombings I don't think will stop for tens of years... if not hundreds... it's religion...(I base my opinion on what I see in the newspapers, on TV and what I've learned about the region)
EDIT: uh... you do realize that those in the middle east COMPLETELY believe that what they are doing is right and moral... morals are subjective relative to religion, society and location... granted, some morals are similar for some things...
anyone could defend their actions by saying it's "what they believe is moral and right"...

Why is it you and so many others throw the word "liberal" around as if it were a crime? Republicans have tried to turn liberal into a bad word lately and I'm not sure why.
Liberals ended slavery in this country. It may have been a Republican President but a Liberal Republican. What happened to them? They got run out of the party.
What did liberals do that was so offensive to the liberal party? I'll tell you what they did. Liberals got women the right to vote. Liberals got African-Americans the right to vote. Liberals created Social Security and lifted millions of elderly people out of poverty. Liberals ended segregation. Liberals passed the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act. Liberals created Medicare. Liberals passed the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act.
What did Conservatives do? They opposed them on every one of those things… every one. So when you try to hurl that label at my feet, 'Liberal,' as if it were something to be ashamed of, something dirty, something to run away from, it won't work, because I will pick up that label and I will wear it as a badge of honor. Liberals stand for liberty and independence and the idea that no matter what it is we're against we should not change the very fiber of this nation in order to protect ourselves.
Ben Franklin said it best. He said, "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." Lately with the Patriot Act and all the mess it's caused, I worry about what Conservatives stand for!

quite than specializing in attacking liberals, possibly you should pay interest to the truthfully themes at present dealing with the country and determine out the position you stand. Conservatives have never stood for any modern theory, consisting of the abolition of slavery or women's rights or civil rights for African individuals, regardless of their celebration label. Your expertise of yank political heritage is amazingly incorrect. teach your self and then come again to us with an wise question.

Liberals stand for Freedom, a Fair Market, a Responsible government, Liberty, Civil Rights and Equality.
Liberals do not want "larger" government, we want more RESPONSIBLE government.
As for why Iraq is the wrong war at the wrong time, Senator Barak Obama said it best:
"Now let me be clear – I suffer no illusions about Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal man. A ruthless man. A man who butchers his own people to secure his own power. He has repeatedly defied UN resolutions, thwarted UN inspection teams, developed chemical and biological weapons, and coveted nuclear capacity.
He’s a bad guy. The world, and the Iraqi people, would be better off without him.
But I also know that Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States, or to his neighbors, that the Iraqi economy is in shambles, that the Iraqi military a fraction of its former strength, and that in concert with the international community he can be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history.
I know that even a successful war against Iraq will require a US occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences. I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international support will only fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of al-Qaeda.
I am not opposed to all wars. I’m opposed to dumb wars."

The liberal philosophy of "No Enemies on the Left" is self destructive.
My uncle who raised me and is the most intelligent man I know explained it this way----he too was once a liberal----a flower child of the 60's--then one day an issue arose that riled his dander but good (gun control)------Clinton was in office and wanted legislation to chink away and erode the right to bear arms----Uncle went ballistic when Clinton slipped anti-gun legislation inside of another bill and got it passed through congress when the gun legislation had zero chance of making it on it's own----------he said it was like force feeding dogs a pill (guess they used to wrap pills in bread to administer medications to their dogs)-----and he looked around and said WOW-------everything that is good------they are against-----and everything bad----hollyweird , the liberals, and the news media will thump the drums in favor of-----and that is when my uncle really pulled his head out of the sand and became informed and involved in current events---and educated me-----and I thank him for it-----when you know the truth----the truth will set you free.

Correct me if I'm wrong.
Liberals stand for everything that is wrong with the USA.
They support the wholesale slaughter of unborn children. They support gays and gay rights. They are against the death penalty for convicted killers, but approve killing babies. They want to take guns away from law abiding Americans. They support taxing the hell out of the working Americans to support the welfare class that knows how to play the system.
They feel we need to take God and all religion out of the USA. Yet, the 2 faced liberals joined the Republicans to sing "God bless America" the evening of 9-11. The democratic party will be the demise of this nation.
