If your school doesn't allow you to take more than 18 credits a semester, can you still take DANTES/CLEP test and get credit. I'm taking six classes and want to take one or two dantes tests, does anyone know if schools accept them, cause that technically would be more than 18 credits.

In short - Ask an academic adviser in your school, its very likely you could.

My job is related to these sorts of questions, but every school has different policies. In our case, Yes normally you can take a Clep test to receive credit for life experience. These credits, at least in my university, are placed separate on student transcripts, just as transfer credits are list separate from credits taken locally. So it shouldn't count toward your 18 enrolled credits.

For your future information My school also has a 18 credit enrollment limit, but students may get a wavier to "overload" to take more then this. Its usually given to students with a good GPA and show ability to handle a heavy workload in the past. If you need to take more then 18 credits in the future, you should ask to see if you can overload.

I think it refers to actually taking the 6 classes. the CLEP test gives you credit for a class but without actually taking the class. so you should be fine.
