i haven't been since i was a little kid. i mean when you turn out all the lights the same stuff is around you as in the dark. so why would one be scared of the dark?

People are afraid of the dark because everything is concealed.
You can't physically visualize the objects in front of you.
As thing always change in the light, things also change in the dark.
People draw strange conclusions about what is out there.
To sum everything up, people are afraid of the dark because there exists the unknown.
