Depends on the person. Maybe they are very depressed and just want to sit, eat and sleep. Or maybe they have always watched what they eat and now that they are "fat" anyway, want to eat everything they ever denied themselves.
Whatever the cause, the person needs medical help and probably some kind of psychological help as well. Obesity is not only a sign of more serious problems, it is also a CAUSE of very serious problems. Especially while pregnant!

If told to gain 25 pounds I am assuming a single baby. Maybe a lot of water weight? I know women who have gained like 50 pounds during pregnancy and it wasn't extra weight. 100 pounds is too much to gain no matter what. 60-100 pounds is a big difference.

For those of you who said horrible things about the women who gained a lot in pregnancy obviously don't know much. During my first pregnancy I gained 60+ pounds. I gained the normal about of weight through out my pregnancy but during the last two weeks I was gaining 8lbs each week. I had high blood pressure ( pregnancy induced hypertension) and became very swollen. I did not gain all of the weight by sitting on my butt just eating junk food. So before you go judging someone maybe you should find out the circumstances.
ps. I lost almost all of the pregnany weight before #2. I lost all of #2's pregnancy weight and more before I got pregnant with #3.

Depends on if its a medical condition or just plain neglecting to eat healthy foods.
Some medical conditions during pregnancy can cause major water retention, making the weight gain enormous.
It isnt hard to gain 100 lbs during pregnancy, and about 20 lbs of it is fluid.
Docs will tell u that alot of weight gain is just as unhealthy as not enough. Its terribly hard on your heart.
I would answer your question with over eating if its not medically related. It has been enforced that pregnant women are eating for two, and when u think this way, alot of weight gain can be expected.

I gained like 60 lbs when i was preg. with my daughter. exercised everyday, ate healthy, and still gained the weigh. I was told to eat fruit and veggies and that would help but I still put the pounds on! My daughter weighed almost 10 lbs when born and now i'm smaller then before I had her. I don't know what happen to make me gain so much even when i tried not to?! not everyone who gains alot when preg. is a fat pig and sits around all day eating junk food!!!!! >:/

Hi,
Depends on the person. They may have eaten heaps for food they should not have, could have gestational diabetes without knowing, fluid retentsion. Swollen ankles, hands, face and legs. Could have pre-ecempsia.
I carried heeps of fluid when i was first pregnant. I ate stupidly. Learnt my leson.
Im pregnant now and are nearly four months and only put on a kilo which i am really proad of. I eat sensibly now.
Good luck to whovever has put on that much weight. I hope they do not have any compications at all.

Okay, what the first girl said about stuffing their faces and being fat pigs was unnecessary. I suppose it varies from woman to woman, but 100 is pretty unlikely. Pregnancy causes woman to become tired and have more nausea than usual (like I did) so they are not in the mood for exercising. It's best to eat as healthy as possible for your child and yourself. I am an avid swimmer so I lost the weight (about 20 pounds) after pregnancy.

OK so ya should stop being such a b**** first off saying that they are just being fat pigs and sitting around and just stuffing their faces. alot of people are just as active but they gain more than others. Once you get to about 9 months pregnant you are also really limited to the exercise you can get because of all the pressure being put onto your hips and bladder, especially if they are pinching your sciatic nerve not to mention its harder to breathe because your lungs are being crowded.
