What make you donate to the charity?

Question

I am a fund raiser, my job is to go to the street and stop people and ask them to donate. If you are the "people", what would move you and make a decision to donate? What do you wanna know and what do you care?

I don't like when people start talking like a robot about some charity they are working for. Memorizing a speech of sorts and every word comes out so fast that I can't make sense of what they are trying to say to me. Magazine sales people like to do that. About the only words I can make out are "college tuition and magazines..."

I also don't like those that try to become my best friend in 3 seconds flat, cracking jokes, telling my husband, "he's a lucky man," etc.

I just don't tend to give to anyone on the streets unless it is a person in obvious need. EX: No shoes and it's 28 degrees outside.

Other than that I give to my local church and community programs that have real buildings and can prove that at least 85% of my dollar is going to actually service the need they are claiming to reach out to.

In my case, nothing would convince me to donate, same way I don't contribute to people calling me on the phone. I have no way of telling what the organization is about, if it's legit (or even exists), how much money goes to salaries, administration and fund-raising costs as opposed to the beneficiaries of the charity. Doesn't mean I don't donate money, I just pick my charities carefully.

I know for myself it makes me feel good when I have extra money to donate it, I donate to orginazations that I feel that needs it the most at that time.

it has to be something i care about or i have personal experience with. i dont give to politics because its all bull crap but to our veterans,to childrens causes,to help feed or clothe the poor and my church and to help animals and in cures for like aids or cancer.good luck.
