I believe video surveillance, in and of itself, protects our rights. Higher arrest rates, higher conviction rates, and third parties watching to insure the enforcers don't abuse their authority....net effect: less crime. If cameras were monitoring every street for speeders, how many tickets would it take before everyone started obeying the speed limit? Well, if most criminals knew there were enough cameras in place to not only video the crime, but also the route taken from and to their house, they'd be much less likely to commit the crime.

It's the OTHER uses of all of that raw data that scares me as a law abiding citizen...it wouldn't take long before complex computer models are used to map everyone's routines. Such mapping could be used to determine political affiliations and associations, ways to predict who might be the biggest obstacles to a particular legislation, the likeliest routes one might take if he or she was being hunted....ways to record everyone who currently engage in acts which may later be deemed illegal....

People probably use it as a bluff. they think since there are cameras everywhere, we're all going to act like little school children being watched over by the teacher. that's a bunch of crap. most of the times,(even with cameras around) crimes still happen. why have something that doesn't work? Cameras everywhere infringe on our rights. in this age of technology, it always feel like we are all being watched any where we go! Yes having cameras in banks is a good idea, but having them in front of say a McDonald's is just plain stupid and a waste of money.

Video surveillance are important to record the activities in an area and to prevent malefactors from doing their criminal plans.

Why not? It is creating a demand for new jobs (camera installers) and new products (cameras). Next thing on the list is "proper papers" to travel from state to state. We will no longer need FBI or CIA. We could start up a new agency, and call it SS. Add to the above foolishness, the idea of implanting tracking devices in our bodies, and we can call it "freedom and democracy".

you already being watched and listen too... didn't you know???

do you have a cell phone... most do....

did you know that the government is probably eavesdropping on you right now through your cell phone...IT'S TRUE..LOOK IT UP IF YOU LIKE!!

unless you remove your battery from your cellphone, they can turn on the speaker and eavesdrop on your private conversations.. and your phone can be turned off by the way. that won't change the outcome of your rights being infringed upon...

wake up people!!
