we have the right to protect ourselves from being killed, and if that means killing someone else to protect innocent life so be it.

No one has given this write to anyone! Killings on the name
of law & order or democracy are self proclaimed and law of jungle. All religions prohibit human killings. Taking other creation's life we are answerable to the suprime power,
or otherwise as allowed by Him to utilize lower creations
( only in case of emergency, not for sake of hunting - like
animals ) . Killing of human beings by uniformed people
on the name of duty is also not understandable. We are
here to learn how to coexist, not to terminate the weaker ones. It will take me to write an essay to answer your question. In short live and let live, donot live on others !

We must differentiate between killing and murder.
Murder is the willful and unnecessary act of taking another human life.
Killing is in the best sense of the word the necessary act of taking life. This could be to protect yourself or others, etc.
Those who are condemned to death are normally MURDERERS. This means they either chose to take a life or through their negligence took innocent life.
The act of taking a murderers life is known here in most of America as JUSTICE.

As one of our more famous generals said, and I am paraphrasing-the idea is to kill more of the SOBs and let them die for their cause than for us to die for ours. Why do we need any justification over the reasons you stated in your (question)? You may consider asking the radical islamists what gives them the right to kill THEIR OWN CHILDREN for the sake of killing other innocent people.

One thing is protect your house from delinquents and another thing is murdering neighbors because "they could be delinquents"
What about taking a house whose annoying owner didn't attacked you? He's annoying but he didn't attacked you, and you know who did it?
