This may be a silly question, but I always thought it was considered Central California, being in the Central Valley. My boyfriend says it's considered Northern CA b/c it's higher than SF, which is definitely considered Northern CA.

I think because California is such a large state, thats why people often refer to it as northern and southern. You would be considered northern and I would be considered southern (LA area). California has so many major cities (Los Angeles, San francisco, Sacramento, Fresno, and many many more) that it even has a central california.

Northern California

Central Valley is sometimes considered because of the Agricultral that surrounds the City.
