I'm not a horror movie fan, in the sense you're talking, so probably not qualified to answer this. It just seems, though, that lately so many movies use gore to scare. Now, I am not bothered by blood at all, but when there are flying body parts, people being picked/pulled apart, slicing, dicing, etc, than that's just gross. Not scary, just disgusting. I guess people are just desensitized with all of the real life violence that movies have to push the envelope even farther to get a reaction.
For me, the movies that can be really scary are psychological thrillers. They get into your head and really mess things up. You don't need to hack a body to pieces, but you achieve the same result. At least for me anyway.
I have to say, though, I actually liked the first Final Destination, as well as the Scream movies, which surprised me. Though, they probably aren't really what hard core horror fans would consider "horror".

I disagree... Any movie that you watch as an adult you will most likely not be scared.. the fact is you saw the "classic" horror movies when you were younger thus seeming very scary.. if you go back and watch them now you would probably laugh... for example I watched the pet cemetary the other night and could hardly sit through it but i had remembered it as being scary...
The more recent horror movies use the blood and gore to get to viewers like you.. you prolly cant sit through an operation on TLC, no offense, but that makes people quisey and turn away from the screen.. then you start to think "damn thats disturbing.. it could really happen" and that in fact is the scary part...
but hey any given movie, or genre, is not for everyone..

I watch a lot of horror movies, and have seen about everything but saw and all of those movies saw,Hostel,Final
are just roller coaster movies up then a scream then crashing down and finally nothing.
I hear ya my friend enough is enough I have seen it before.
I watched part one and it was good ,then after I watched it again I thought it was OK, Soon it will never see my DVD player again. Oh and that counts for all those movies you named.

The first Saw was good, and didn't really need sequels. But most so called scary movies made lately are ridiculous, bordering on comedic. The acting is bad, the plots forgettable. I agree, it's more scary to imagine what's happening than to actually see the gore. But besides the body hacking, I am sick of these computer generated monsters. Are they trying to scare us or make us laugh?

I agree, a real horror movie to me is one that instills fear from within, not me watching bodies being hacked into pieces. Halloween was the quietest, scariest, bone chilling movie, and you'd be lucky to get 10 words total. You don't see any body hacking...and lets be honest, you don't have too, Michael Myers can scare the bejeesuz out of anyone just by standing there.

do no longer ignore Planet of the Apes. That one harm. field place of work revenues are way down this summer season and critics have ripped almost each and everything it particularly is come out. i'm hoping which ability some thing reason i'm ill of this ****. quickly they are going to be remaking great action pictures like the Godfather or A Clockwork Orange. i will see Alex and the droogies now, flying interior the path of the air in a gradual action kung fu gang combat. provide up with that Matrix ****! It grow to be purely cool in that action picture. For Gods sake, purely for the reason which you are able to upload some CG to a action picture that may not reason sufficient to remake it! i'm relatively getting worked up approximately this now. i'm gonna circulate have a cigarette. Cape concern grow to be a sturdy remake in spite of the incontrovertible fact that.

I usually don't like those types of horror movies either, but I DID see Saw (the first one) and that movie was pretty good. It wasn't as gory as you think it is.
