I would say, go where you really want a job at.
What really interests you? What would you really like to do?
Pursue it! No matter what.
Part of the problem when we start out young in the workforce is feeling like because you are only 16 you can't get certain jobs.
Well, I can tell you that isn't true.
My cousin started out at 17 as a medical biller (accounting) and is still doing it now at the same place and makes over $32K/yearly now at the age of 28.
She has great track record of that employment and will help her. But she got there cause she went, told them what she really wanted and offered her services.
Even to offer to volunteer for a while to gain experience and then ask if you can get some part time work after a couple months proving what you can do. It might get you the start, in whatever job, to get your foot in the door and make some contacts.
Also, go to businesses that you are interested in even if you think you might not have any chance of getting work there and ask to give an informational interview of the hiring manager with some questions for them like on what the field is like, what they look for, why they like it and things like that. And then ask question like if a young person came in to volunteer would they consider you as a formal volunteer to gain experience. You never know and at least you'll make some contacts.
Just remember!!
Don't sell yourself short! Confidence can get you far!

At your age-its best to start or apply in the restaurants or fast food joints. (I worked at Burger King at age 16 & hated it but didn't have a choice) -I'd rather wash dishes in a restaurant than work in a fastfoodjoint!

i would say try to catch on with a construction crew. you'll learn a little, plus youll learn good work ethic, and if you stick with it, youll always have somewhere to work while you go on with school or if you choose another career someday and you get laid off or something. dtsy sesy from crews that have guys with drug problems or anything like that. but its a much better job for a kid than working at mcdonalds or anything liek that.
