I think because that is the kind of sexual offense we usually hear these days. I mean, that is usually what comes to my mind, even though I know there are other kinds of sexual offenses besides child molestation.
Either way, sexual offenses are bad.

I guess cuz in the news people always hear about molesters they automatically think of one when they hear a sex offender. Does that help? If not i will try explaining again.

probably because that is what we hear about the most.
i realize that there are plenty of sex offenders who aren't child molesters, but how does it make it better to specify?
whether the offence is against women or children it's just wrong.

because unfortunately the media and society in general have caused us to have this stereotypical reaction to the term sex offender. it is not fair and some of the most ridiculous cases have resulted in otherwise upstanding citizens being labeled as sex offenders...when it could be something as benign as 'streaking' while in college.

both terms mean "sick people" thats why people tend to refer to them as the same definition,
p.s these type of people should be dropped in a grinder along with the other useless humans that do nothing but create problems in society
