I am studying sport science and we were doing nutrition and exercise a couple of weeks ago. You should eat a good serving of some complex carbohydrates with low GI 1 1/2 - 2 hours before your game. The glucose in the carbohydrates is made into glycogen with is your main fuel source when playing soccer. Drinking some water is also a good idea so you are hydrated for the 1st half and can re hydrate yourself in half time.

Eating meat before a game isn't a very good idea because it supplies little energy and takes a long time to break down so you energy is going into digestion rather then playing.

:)

Usually the best thing to eat the night before a game would be pasta because it's got load of carbohydrates (energy that's ready to burn off). In the morning, I'd have something like bananas (potassium to help prevent cramps) and oranges (also to give energy and help prevent cramps) with a good breakfast.
