OK, here's the logic. Our policy of inaction and no effective response culminated in the events of 9/11.
This time we responded, and the democrats not only want to surrender, they want to return to the same old policy.
Go figure.

Chances are that we will be attacked again at some point. It was 8 years between the first and second attack within the U.S. I don't believe the war in Iraq is keeping the terrorists out of here. That seems very unlikely to me in view of the fact that it only took 19 terrorists to bring down the twin towers, and hit the Pentagon, not an army of them.
If terrorists do come here in large numbers, it will probably be through our open borders with Canada and Mexico. There may be hundreds of them here now. Who really knows who has come through these borders?

And other than their previous M.O. just how are they going to do that, we can't actually stop all attacks no matter what but if you're alluding to insurgent warfare just how the hell are they going to amass troops here, do they have an Air Force, a Navy, look if they want to blow something up we can't really stop that anyway, on the other hand if we'd stop being a freaking Jihad Recruiting poster maybe we could reduce the number of people willing to use terror as a weapon

Your question is crazy talk. Millions joining the military to defend against a dozen or so terrorists who are now probably dead? The people don't hold the power to pass laws for our security no more than they have the power to secure our southern border, or did you forget that's wide open.

No, untrained soldiers fighting on the streets would turn even small towns into scenes similar to those we see coming from Iraq. If and when our troops come home, we will have them here to protect us. That is one of the things our military is responsible for.

I think its better we get attacked while we have troops at home ready to be deployed or sent to the place we were attacked
than to have them in iraq. we're just sitting ducks right now

you seem to think there is this huge army of terrorists out there in boats and planes waiting to attack and the only think holding them back is us being in Iraq?
do you know what terrorism is... what terrorists are... what they are trying to do... and how they do it? do you know the difference in conventional and non-conventional warfare?
we have more than enough troops to derail the terror threat... but if they don't know how to fight the war... more troops won't help...
but if there was a huge army of terrorists coming, then yes I would register... *sigh*
do you play basketball with a baseball and wonder why it's hard to dribble?

I think that the US sticks it's nose where it does not belong. We should clean up our own country before we stick our foot in our mouths to other countries on how they should be governing themselves. Yes I think we should come home and I have no doubt that we would fair better with the world. And yes I have no doubt that anyone in America would stand up to defend their own homeland, I have seen it many times.

I've already dawned my uniform and more. Making every decision based on fear rarely bodes well for the future.
The Iraq war itself was initiated on the fears and anxieties of a traumatized country. Ones fears must be set aside to make rational, clear, decisions. Some stay in abusive relationships solely due to fear of what may happen if they leave.
There is nothing to fear, but fear itself.
