I have been swaddling my five month old since he was born. Now, we HAVE to swaddle him because he constantly moves his hands around and keeps himself awake if we don't. We use the swaddle more like a straight-jacket now more than anything else. My doctor said it was just a "phase"... Any suggestions? Thanks!

He will eventually outgrow that phase. Some babies loves to be swaddled because it makes him feel more secure like he did when he was in your womb. Eventually when he starts to learn more about life, he will start to want to explore the world instead of being swaddled and then you won't have to worry about swaddling him. If he starts to outgrow the receiving blankets, you can use bigger baby blankets until he's ready.

if it works stick with it. My son LOVED to be swaddled and also would not sleep without it, until about 5 months then he suddenly hated it. If you find that blankets are too small try getting a swaddle me from kiddopatomus, they come in larger sizes adn velcro shut for maximum straight jacketness.

If its working, keep on doing it! My daughter was swaddled until she was 5 months old and one week. One night she decided she didn't want to be swaddled anymore. She was waking up every 5 minutes and I couldn't figure out why. I unswaddled her, and she slept the rest of the night just fine, as has since then.

He will let you know when he is tired of being wrapped up!

i would keep swaddling him, some babies need to feel that "cozy" when they sleep. once the warmer temps arrive and he get's a little older you will find he can calm himself without being so snug

I say...swaddle on...If he needs it, he needs it. He will let you know when he no longer needs it.

Alot of Native Americans I know, including myself, wrapped our babies in a recieving blanket, like a burrito, and gently rocked or swayed from side to side to put the little one to sleep. My Son is 4 and when he is sick I wrap him in his favorite blanket and gently rock him to sleep...
